ACUTE HEPATITIS CAN BE TRANSMITTED THROUGH THE GASTROINTESTINAL AND RESPIRATORY TRACT! Really
Acute Hepatitis that is sweeping the world is thought to have entered Indonesia after three children reportedly died from being infected with this mysterious disease.
The Ministry of Health is still investigating through a complete virus panel examination and epidemiological investigation to find out more about the causes of this disease.
Although the exact cause of acute Hepatitis in children is not yet known, Prof. Dr. dr. Hanifah Oswari, Sp. A, Who is a pediatrician consultant Gastro Hepatology RSCM FK UI mentioned that the initial suspicion is caused by Adenovirus, SARS CoV-2, ABV virus etc. The Virus primarily attacks the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract.
To prevent the risk of infection, Prof Hanifah suggested that parents increase vigilance by taking preventive measures. The first step that can be done by maintaining personal hygiene and the environment.
“To prevent from the digestive tract, keep hygiene by washing hands with soap, make sure the food or drink consumed is cooked, do not use cutlery together with other people and avoid contact with our children from sick people so that our children stay healthy,” explained the researcher at RSCM and FK UI in a press release on Thursday (5/5).
In addition, to prevent transmission of acute Hepatitis through the respiratory tract by implementing COVID-19 health protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining distance and reducing mobility.
Other efforts that can be done by the community to prevent the transmission of acute Hepatitis is the understanding of parents to the early symptoms of acute Hepatitis.
Prof Hanifah mentioned that in general, the initial symptoms of acute Hepatitis are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, sometimes accompanied by low-grade fever. Furthermore, symptoms will get heavier such as thick colored urine such as tea and pale white chapter.
If the child experiences these symptoms, parents are asked to immediately check the child to the nearest health care facility to get an initial diagnosis.
Do not wait until yellow symptoms appear even to a decrease in consciousness. Because these conditions indicate that Hepatitis infection is very heavy. If it is too late to get medical treatment, then the momentum of doctors to help patients is very small.
“Take our children to the nearest health facility to get help from health workers. Do not wait until the symptoms are more severe, because if the weight we lose momentum to be able to help faster. Moreover, if there has been a decrease in consciousness, then the chance to save it is very small,” said Prof Hanifah.
Therefore, there is a need for solid cooperation between parents, health workers and health care facilities in order to find symptoms of acute Hepatitis as early as possible so that children immediately get medical help.
