The Origin Of Simarorang Folklore From Mamasa West Sulawesi

Sumarorong, is the name of the village and the river in Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi province . The meaning of the name Sumarorong comes from five reasons that exist in two West Sulawesi folklore naming Sumarorong. That is from the two words suma and rorong. Suma from the word sumarro. Rorong from the word makarorrong. Sumarro ‘complains’, ‘wails’or 'cries'. Makarorrong, 'reminiscing' or’merindu'. Why 'cry-yearn'? Episode one: in ancient times, Parinding Bassi departed with his guards from Kampung Peonan (included in Kec.Pana now, Kab.Mamasa) towards Nosu area. In the area that is now Sumarorong, chosen to live in one of the Three Hills that are interconnected Hill Tondok Tallu Hill. A high place was chosen to facilitate observation of game animals. 

One day Parinding Bassi with his bodyguards went hunting. They arrived at the mouth of the three rivers, namely the Baneaq River, a river that is now called Sumarorong River and Mamasa River, not far from their residence. From the mouth of the river emerged a beautiful woman dressed in water grass his name Datu Lumuran (lumuran 'mossy'). The woman was taken home and married by Parinding Bassi. Locals consider sacred the estuary of the river where Datu Lumuran emerged. Adaq Mappurondo/Aluq Todolo believers in the region still deliver offerings to worship the Gods to the estuary. The life of Parinding Bassi-Datu Lumuran is full of happiness. 

They become rich. One day maqbua was held, a massive party rejoiced at the wealth they obtained. Parinding Bassi invited everyone and The Elders of Hadat around him. Actually, Parinding Bassi reluctantly gave the anoa to his grandson because it was still wild. After all, anoa is only for cutting and eating meat. The grandson insisted on getting it. His grandson's request was fulfilled to be taken home. He put bamboo on both horns of anoa so that he could not gore. Parinding Bassi ordered. Never open bamboo before Anoa tame properly. 

They returned to their village. In the middle of the trip the group stopped to rest. Unbeknownst to anyone the grandson secretly released the bamboo on anoa's Horn. Suddenly anoa jumped up and gored him. My grandson died there too. The place was named Pendarangan. With deep sorrow they carried the grandson's body to continue the journey of the grandson to continue the journey home. Upon arrival at the village, their families were very angry. They came to Tondok Tallu to attack the village of Parinding Bassi. But they were also not convinced by the power of their weaponry that could destroy Parrinding Bassi with his guards and the population that had become his followers. It was decided to poison the Tondok Tallu spring. Kadokoq, a very hard poison is put into the tondok Tallu spring water source. Destroy the people of Tondok Tallu after drinking kadokok's poisoned water. Only Parrinding Bassi, his wife, and one of his young sons, Pasok Gallang, survived. Parrinding Bassi no longer lives in Tondok Tallu. But his pregnant wife, Datu Lumuran, did not want to leave her native region. Because each hard stance both beerpisah, although still love each other.

 Parinding Bassi with his son went, leaving Datu Lumuran. A farewell full of heartbreak and deep sadness. The two set off westward across the Mamasa River, arriving at an area that Parinding Bassi gave the name Matangnga. Datu Lumuran who was pregnant left Tondok Tallu to the estuary where Parinding Bassi was found first. In Matangnga, Parinding Bassi married Marimbung son of Simbaq Datu of Tabulahan. Two children were born, Manaq Lolo and Tabudang Ulu. Manaq Lolo's son, Tambura Langi, has descended from generations in Matangnga until now. Time passed on, Pasok Gallang Prince Parinding Bassi who had grown fond of finding and catching masapi 'eel'. One day we went down the river and moved to another river. 

In the preoccupation of finding and catching eels he arrived at a river not far from Tondok Tallu. He was not far from his father's house when he first came to the village of Minanga (now) not far from the meeting place of his parents (Parinding Bassi – Datu Lamuran). He saw a very beautiful woman, Rangga Bittoen her name, the daughter of Datu Lumuran which she conceived at the time of parting with her husband Parinding Bassi. Neither of them knew they were brothers. Pasok Gallang proposed and married Rarngga Bittoen. On the first night of their marriage, being engrossed in making out, suddenly a lunar eclipse occurred. As soon as the lunar eclipse was over, both of them became stones. Until 1993 the stone believed to be the incarnation of Pasok Gallang-Rangga Bittoen still exists. Named Kalewe, by Adaq Mappurondo/Alaq Todolo believers, Kelewe was used as one of the places of worship in the area. People know that the two people who have become the Stone are actually brothers. People mourn the sad events of Kalewe. 

Three sad events occur in the story above, namely: the destruction of the people of Tondok Tallu, parting Parinding Bassi with his wife Datu Lumuran, and Pasok Gallang-Rangga Bittoen into stone. These sad events cause tears when remembered missed. So it is said, there arose the term sumarro anna makarorrong (complaining-wailing-crying and reminiscing –longing). Over time, the place where the sad events took place was called Sumarorong. Episode two: Kalewe events long gone, one day came a new family from Peonan (in the District.Pana, Kab. Read it now). Sadaq-Beqlang family with his guards established a village near the mouth of the three rivers, namely Baneaq River, the river that is now called Sumarorong River, and Mamasa River. Their village was named Betteng. Located at the foot of the hill. They live on farms. A white buffalo that they got suddenly pregnant, the White Buffalo was mated by a magical male buffalo that emerged from the mouth of the river where Datu Lumuran was once found. Their buffalo breed became numerous. And their farms are growing. It makes them arrogant, they flaunt wealth in an extravagant way. To show that they had a large number of Buffalo, all the female buffalo that had just given birth were gathered and milked. Buffalo milk was spilled into a river near their village. In a few moments, so much milk was spilled that the river turned into a river of milk. To show that their rice fields are abundant, glutinous rice is made into Sparrow throwers and thrown to people who pass by their villages. They also distributed ‘parang panjang ' pens to community leaders and traditional leaders who lived around their villages. This act of pride was not welcomed by the customary Chiefs. The Chief Adat said, the act will bring the Curse of the land, to them down through the generations. Plants will not grow properly because the Gods Of The Creator of Nature will be angry. That's exactly what the chief executive said. Cropping-plants no one becomes. They fell into poverty and suffered greatly. 

They mourn and weep for the memory of a prosperous past. A few years after their leader Tomakaka died, his descendants moved to Lawean east of Tondoko Tallu. In the new place they found a dwarf menusia exactly the little boy who had not yet grown teeth. The dwarves they love. Made a shell. Every day, before they go to the farm or enter the forest looking for rattan, and carry out various activities the little boy put in buain. Surprisingly, after they returned home, all the food in the house ran out. So it happens every day. One day, they pretended to leave the house as usual. On the thing they do not go. Silently they entered the House. What happened ? The little one got out of the crib and finished all the food that was in the House. They realized the little boy was tau lapping 'wild dwarves'. The dwarf was beaten. Suddenly a multitude of dwarves attacked them. The Dwarves were angry that some of their citizens were being tortured by them. 

Not far from the scene, there was a woman who was bathing while washing her hair with lemon. The news was immediately communicated to the population. A short time later a great battle took place between Tau Lappun and the inhabitants of Lawean and Betteng. Battles on land and in rivers were always won by Tau Lappun.
