PRINCIPLES OF PROVIDING COUNSELING TO PATIENTS AS EARLY ANTICIPATION BEFORE MAKING REFERRAL.

1.      Be a Good Listener.

a.        Don't interrupt when the client is talking, look into his eyes as a sign of attention and to grow his trust in us.
b.       If the client wants to cry, give him the opportunity to cry to his heart's content, don't try to comfort him so he stops crying. Crying is an expression of the deepest feelings of a person to show his emotions. After he is satisfied crying, get ready for us to listen to his story again.
c.        Make sure the client tells the story as relaxed as possible and at his own will, try to find a place and time that is not disturbing/limited so that the counseling process can be effective.
d.       After the client stops telling stories, then the counselor makes an anamnese call related to the client.
2.      Trying to Understand Client's Personal Characteristics.
a.        Investigate the personality type that appears (such as whether the type of client/client is sensitive, critical, stubborn, extrinsic, easily discouraged, etc.).
b.       Dig also how the principles of life, ideals, hopes and disappointments.
3.      Search and Discussion Regarding the Basic Causes of Problems or Anxieties Perceived by Clients.
Identify which ones are really serious problems, and which problems are just a dramatization of the client's feelings. That way, it will be easier for us to provide an assessment of which problems need to be solved first.
4.      Give reasonable attention and empathy.
Do not give excessive consolation or persuasion, because this will make the client feel poor and down so that the desire to get up and face the problem more firmly will be difficult because of the high suggestion of the complexity of the problem at hand.
5.      Provide Instructions and Suggestions for using Effective and Positive Defense Mechanisms, such as:
a.        Directed to do the substitution. That is, changing negative feelings in the form of positive, creative and active behavior, can satisfy oneself and please others.
b.       Directed to do sublimation. That is, changing the sense of ego or stubbornness into a commendable form of behavior, willing to give up to win.
c.        Directing to resign. Namely trusting and surrendering to the Creator (God Almighty), willing to accept difficulties and problems as trials and believing that God will not impose problems that His people cannot bear.
d.       Directs to do bessinung. That is, to think deeply, be introspective and find the best solution to a problem or anxiety that occurs so that we can get out of an impasse.
e.        Directed to make compensation. That is, replacing failure in one area with the hope of success in another. Because, where there are disadvantages there must be advantages, and vice versa.
6.      Instill Spiritual Values according to the beliefs held by the Client.
This is very useful so that clients can stand in accordance with their nature as humans who cannot be separated from all trials, anticipating clients not to "escape" on negative things. For example, acts of suicide, other acts of self-defeating.
7.      Maintain Client Confidentiality (Personal Identity, Problems) as a Code of Ethics and Preliminary Agreement with Clients/family.
In addition to growing the client's trust in the counselor, it also protects against things that are not expected, unless from the start there has been an agreement to share secrets with people who are competent to assist in the therapy process or the anamnesis process.
